Daedalus DS8 Subwoofer is both budget-friendly and accommodating for any room. The 8" woofer uses Aperion Audio's advanced technology to produce powerful bass sounds in a compact cabinet. We prefer paper cones because they are lightweight and moderately rigid, which helps reproduce low frequencies effectively. Daedalus DS8 Subwoofer features Aperion's new Class D amplifier technology, which extends energy across the sound spectrum. The updated filter design removes signals that may cause low-frequency damage, ensuring clear low-frequency output. We have also improved input options. We kept the standard unbalanced RCA inputs and added balanced XLR inputs to meet various needs. The Daedalus DS8 subwoofer has dual output modes with unbalanced (RCA) and balanced (XLR) outputs.

Solid Build
The Daedalus DS8 Subwoofer features a cabinet constructed from robust, medium-density fiberboard (MDF). The cabinet is finished with a black oak veneer that feels premium to the touch. It's especially well-suited to a dark cinema environment due to the low reflection rate of the Black finish.

Getting to Know The Rear Panel
1. AC Power Cord Receptacle: A US standard power cord has a 3-pin plug with live, neutral, and ground wires. The ground wire enhances safety by carrying leakage current to the ground and reducing the risk of electric shock.
2. On/Off Switch: Turns Subwoofer On/Off.
3. Auto & Standby: When set to Auto, the subwoofer powers on with an input signal and enters standby after 30 minutes of inactivity. In Always On mode, the subwoofer stays powered regardless of input.
4. Phase: The phase adjustment knob optimizes the phase relationship between the subwoofer and main speakers, improving low-frequency response and system integration while accommodating different speaker positions.
5. Crossover 40-160 Hz & OFF/LFE: The crossover adjustment knob lets you control which frequencies the subwoofer processes, ensuring better synergy with the main speaker and reducing sound overlap. Setting the crossover point to 80Hz means the subwoofer handles sounds below 80Hz while the main speaker handles those above. If your AV receiver has a separate LFE output, set the crossover knob to Off. This allows the RCA input to act like the LFE input, managing low-frequency signals without using a subwoofer crossover, ideal for home theaters.

We have also improved input options. To meet various needs, we kept the standard unbalanced RCA inputs and added balanced XLR inputs. That connects to any receiver’s subwoofer pre-out.
XLR uses balanced transmission to minimize noise and interference, making it perfect for long-distance cable runs. This reduces signal loss for clearer sound quality, while the locking design ensures a secure connection.

Phase 0-180° Knob
The phase adjustment knob optimizes the phase relationship between the subwoofer and main speakers, resolving phase cancellation and improving low-frequency response. It's essential for accommodating different speaker positions and enhancing overall system integration.
Auto & Always On
When the switch is set to the Auto position, the subwoofer automatically turns on and plays music when it detects an input signal. The subwoofer automatically enters standby mode if there is no input signal for more than 30 minutes.
If the switch is set to the Always On position, the subwoofer will remain powered on regardless of whether it detects a signal, and it will not enter standby mode.
Crossover 40-160 Hz & Off/LFE
The crossover adjustment lets you control the range of frequencies that the subwoofer processes. This helps it work well with the your other speakers and avoids overlap or loss of sound. If both the subwoofer and your speakers play the same frequencies at the same time, the sound can become muddy and unclear.
By adjusting the crossover point, you can keep frequencies from overlapping, which makes the sound clearer.
For example, if you set the crossover point to 80Hz, the subwoofer will handle sounds below 80Hz, allowing the main speaker to handle frequencies 80Hz and up.
If configuring a home theater system with LFE, set the crossover knob to Off. This bypasses the internal crossover, allowing the Daedalus sub to process all LFE information which is generally 20-120Hz.

Do I need an amplifier?
The Daedalus subwoofer is an "active" subwoofer, meaning it has a built in amplifier. Use and RCA or XLR cable to connect to your pre amplifier or AV receivers "subwoofer output".
